Sonia N. Burgos-Colón, District Conservationist NRCS Field Office – McKinney, TX. I was born and raised on the west side of the island, Puerto Rico. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Sciences from the University of Puerto Rico and completed a Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico. After several years of being an agronomist, I worked in the private sector including Florida, Virginia, and Puerto Rico. Between 2003 and 2005, I volunteered for the Natural Resources Conservation Service in the Juana Díaz field office and assisted with the Caribbean Soil and Water Conservation Districts in the Earmarks Project. In 2005, I began working with NRCS as a Soil Conservation Technician in the Caguas field office serving the Humacao, Puerto Rico area. Time flew by as I worked as a Soil Conservation Technician for six years before being promoted to Soil Conservationist at the Arecibo Field Office in Puerto Rico. In 2014 I decided to move on and applied for a District Conservationist position in Perryton, Texas and I am still working in the state of TX but in a different Zone. My hobbies, outdoor activities with my family, traveling, and visiting Puerto Rico as often as I can.
