Edrick Marrero Soto is natural from the town of Moca, Puerto Rico. In 2005, he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Science with a specialty in Horticulture from the UPR Mayaguez Campus. In 2008, he obtained a Master in Science Degree from the UPR at Mayaguez Campus where he worked with validating the technology for the correct management of the coffee pulp from the mountain region of Puerto Rico’s. From 2008 to 2009, he did a second Master in Planning and Rural Development at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. Recently in June 2024, he obtained his Doctoral Degree in Education from The Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, specializing in farmer adoption of sustainable agriculture practices and the challenge they confront in the implementation. In 2013, he was appointed Executive Director of the College of Agronomist of Puerto Rico where he worked with several initiatives to improve the services for the agronomists and the development of the agriculture in Puerto Rico. In May 2014, he works as professor of the Agriculture Extension Service, of the College of Agricultural Science, from the UPR Mayaguez Campus. As an Agriculture agent, he has worked on different projects to serve social disadvantage farmers and ranchers. He is coauthor of the proposal to bring the Master Gardener Program to Puerto Rico. During year 2017 and 2018 he serves as president of the Puerto Rican Society of Agriculture Science. He has work in several initiatives to address the needs of farmers, as well as increase the adoption of several practices by farmers like making soil analysis and the adaptation of strategies to fight climate change. Since May, 2020 he join USDA-NRCS Caribbean Area as State Agronomist providing service to Puerto Rico and USVI.
On his spare time, he likes to share time with his son Kostas and his daughter Isabella, his wife Lilly and their dog Lola and Vali. He likes to work at the farm, go to the beach, see movies and travel around the island, and working in his coffee and citrus farm in Guilarte.
